Great beach with occasional crosswinds adds up to a good break onto a sometimes pebbly beach. Pretty sweet for bodyboarding too.

One of my favourite beach breaks especially at high tide. Closes out more than often and can become heavy, I've seen many leashes and boards snapped when it becomes large. I don't recomend it to absolute beginners, go to the north coast. Apart from that good.

Watch out for the big dumps at high tide. Best break opposite cafe, can kick up 2-3 when rest of south coast is flat.

Good at high tide with occasional makeable sections but otherwise a closeout. Good for any stand-up and bodyboarding but watch out for those bloody goat boats.

I surfed Praa for the first time this summer. It was fairly big (5ft) luckily but sadly I ignored the high tide shore dump and went in anyway. Bad move I took the beating of my life. Came back the next day though and had a few pretty good sessions. Not a bad spot but don't go in at high tide.

Good but not amazing. Surfed it up to 5-6 foot and hollow.
 Tank, Poldhu

Great beach nice tubing wave.

Surfed Praa Sands last not long ago on an OK swell and "N" winds all the banks were messed up and it was not breaking well and there were around 100 people on the main peak. If I were you I would go and surf Gwithian, Newquay or anywhere but Praa Sands it's not worth it.
 BPC, Penzance

A bit goonified at high tide but has classic hollow waves at mid to low tide. Hazards: Big Doeboy!
 Goon, Porthleven

This is a wicked beach for body boarders and surfers with some great hollow waves at mid to low tide if the wind is right. Respect the locals though!
 B.K., Porthleven

Praa is a wicked break. It is the best beach break on the south coast. When it is big above 6 foot the shorebreak goes off with big gnarly barrels to be made. Offshore on a west to north east. Respect us locals and you will enjoy your surf!
 Tom Greenall, Helston

You need a 4ft+ swell to stand a chance catching anything at high tide as it tends to dump! Otherwise, you can get some nice 'A'-Frames along any part of the beach; particularly at mid tide. Low tide drop's off much less at east the end.
 Darryl, Falmouth

Paddled out into the biggest cleanist surf I've ever rode to date on a cold december day 1999, respect for a place that deserves it!!!

6"3' + 1/8 weed + shore dump = snapped board. Good fun though!
 Andy, Redruth

Praa can get good, but so can anywhere else, so I wouldnt say its 'the best in England?!' at least if you go here your not at Porthleven, which will make a welcome change, or better still go newquay and be cool...
